Twyla
2O22
The Twyla Series of 2O22 was inspired by the work choreographer Twyla Tharp created during the Covid-19 pandemic. The extraordinary project that Twyla created for her dancers, each from very different backgrounds (nothing new for Twyla), took place with each dancer in their own practice space, around the world; each dancer with a computer setup, and with Twyla at her computer on Zoom, directing and coordinating everyone from her space in New York.

The dance project, which is very short, is planned to remain in a digital space, with the different dancers each in their own cell.
Twyla’s choreographic work within the boxes that Zoom demarcates, inspired these abstract Twyla drawings created in the digital space of an ipad, using a digital pen.
The Twyla Series was created soon after the Cells and Multicells, which look very different, but are strongly related.
If you are interested in seeing Twyla Tharp’s Covid /Zoom work, go to American Masters on PBS, and you will find it, and be able to follow along to understand the choreographer’s process, and how it has influenced this particular series of digital images.
